Northern Diversions

This May, the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia takes place in Northern Ireland, giving it the perfect opportunity to show off its tourism-related treasures, writes Catherine Murphy.

We're used to seeing shades of green, white and orange, or red, white and blue when we visit the North. But next month, another colour will dominate. The region will be awash with pink in honour of the Giro d'Italia Grande Partenza, or big start', which takes place from May 9 to 11.

Pink is the colour that stage winners will wear at the end of each day's racing and, already, people in small villages dotted along...
