Noonan: No EU agreement on transaction tax

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said EU finance chiefs reached no decision on a proposed financial transaction tax in Brussels and will return to the issue in the first half of 2012.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said European Union finance chiefs reached no decision on a proposed financial transaction tax at a Brussels meeting today and will return to the issue in the first half of 2012.

Ireland supports such a tax, preferably at the global level or, failing that, in the 27-nation EU, Noonan told reporters in Brussels after the meeting today.
