Why even consider outsourcing ‘driving tester’ jobs (23/4/06)? The government’s 120 appointed testers earn up to €40,000 annual salary, and it is now revealed that they are slipping behind in coping with the scheduled number of daily tests required by contract.

Yet paying them a bonus of €20,000 a year to carry out an extra eight tests per week is being proposed, to get rid of the backlog. This will cost the taxpayer...
