Nobody knows at what time precisely Janie Norman, a 32-year old Aboriginal woman, died.

Her estranged husband, Ronald Djana, 33, called an ambulance at 2amon May 7,2008 to report that his wife needed some medical assistance - but, in all likelihood, she had died hours beforehand.

Over the previous 12 hours, Norman had been flogged with a whip, her abdomen had been stamped on, and she had been raped with a metal pole.
