Nigerian bird-flu outbreak increases risk for Ireland

The Department of Agriculture has said it is not taking any special measures to protect against the spread of avian flu, which was discovered in Nigeria last week.

The Department of Agriculture has said it is not taking any special measures to protect against the spread of avian flu, which was discovered in Nigeria last week. A case of bird flu in southern Italy was also confirmed yesterday.

However, officials stressed that they were constantly monitoring the spread of the deadly virus and would ‘‘continue their contingency measures on a daily basis.”
