There is no chance of Ireland finding its way out of its economic malaise through austerity measures, according to Smurfit Kappa chief executive Gary McGann.

While McGann's verdict on Ireland's economic health last week is unlikely to raise too many spirits, his company's latest results will have left many of Smurfit Kappa's shareholders with a lot of faith in McGann's corporate nous.
