It took a long time to come onto the market but The Old Chocolate Factory scheme in Kilmainham, Dublin 8, proved a huge success, selling out within days of its launch and grossing €65 million in sales for developer Lalco Developments.

Kilmainham's proximity to the city centre is attracting a greater number of buyers, as younger people in particular try to find comparatively affordable homes close to the city centre and public transport networks. London-based developer DavidKennedy must be particularly interested in the demand for the apartments.He bought the 13.65 acre Clancy Barracks in 2002 for €25.4 million and recently applied to build a newscheme on the site including nearly 1,000 apartments, a hotel and some retail units.
