The city that never sleeps is base to three US presidential hopefuls. If they can make it there, can they make it anywhere, asks Niall O’Dowd.

Not since Franklin Roosevelt in 1932 has a New Yorker ended up in the White House.

Since then, the presidential compass has moved inexorably west and south - with the exception of John F Kennedy in 1960, who was the last east coast president.
