New York mayor to curb giant soft drinks

The fast food industry is not pleased as New York's mayor moves to outlaw sales of super-sized fizzy drinks in some outlets.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg intends to restrict sales of sugary soft drinks in the first step in an anti-obesity drive.

His plan is to rule that drinks can be no larger than 16 ounces a cup (roughly half a litre) in city restaurants, movie theatres, stadiums and arenas.

The Health Department plans to propose the ban as an amendment to the Health Code at a June 12 meeting of the Board of Health, according to...
