New vacant property levy on the way

Owners of vacant land avoid taxes, but the council must meet financial costs associated with them

A 50 per cent levy on unusable properties with development potential was proposed by a developer at a briefing on the use of vacant properties which took place in Dublin's Mansion House last week. Developer Barry Boland said that the proposed levy by Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn needed bite and a 2 per cent levy would not be sufficient.
