Universities are hiking accommodation prices for incoming first-year students by as much as 8 per cent this year.

Universities are hiking accommodation prices for incoming first-year students by as much as 8 per cent this year.

UCD has increased first-year resident prices for this year from €4,470 to €5,050. Other campus residences could cost up to 11 per cent more than last year, which is the biggest increase in university accommodation in the country.

Union of Students in Ireland president Laura Harmon said increased campus accommodation costs were creating “an access to education issue”.
