New RTE show could benefit from Mac Grianna gaffe

The low-key launch of RTE's Morning Edition sets out clearly where RTE's priorities lie these days, writes Samantha McCaughren.

Aengus Mac Grianna's wardrobe malfunction brought News Now to a whole new audience.

RTE launches a news programme tomorrow, Morning Edition, which will run on both RTE One and its rolling news service, News Now.

It's a relatively low-key launch, but it sets out clearly where RTE's priorities lie. Public service broadcasting and news and current affairs will remain central to its output, even if some commercial elements fall by the wayside, as director general Noel Curran has hinted.
