New NCT penalty points are onerous and unbalanced
Panic has sent thousands of drivers rushing for NCT tests, but the severity of the penalty points does not reflect the nature of the new offences
Penalty points were introduced a few years ago in the interest of improving road safety and reducing deaths on the nation’s roads.
The system looks like it’s working. Many drivers today have penalty points on their driving licence. I’m afraid I’m included: for using a mobile phone while driving three days after the offence became law.
