New consultants’ contract fails to deliver better care
The survey also highlights fears that consultants will defect to the private sector, writes Susan Mitchell
In welcoming the conclusion of negotiations with the Irish Hospital Consultants Association in 2008, health minister Mary Harney said the new contract was key to unlocking great improvements for patients that would be far-reaching and long-lasting.
It would, she vowed, ‘‘mark a new era for our health services’’.
Harney said patients would be seen faster and would be the winners in this new contract.
