New car sales up 26% on last year

New car sales are up nearly 27 per cent on last year, according to figures released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

New car sales are up nearly 27 per cent on last year, according to figures released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

With almost 50,000 cars sold (in comparison to 39,466 in Q1 2013), the first quarter of this year has outperformed all other quarters since 2008. Sales in March were up 23 per cent.

The commercial vehicle market is also seeing positive numbers, with light commercial/van sales up 43 per cent this quarter and up 45...
