New car licences fall 26% in January, says CSO

Of the new private cars licensed, 2,800 or 26.1 per cent were petrol and 7,842 (73.1 per cent) were diesel, according to the Central Statistics Office

A total of 10,735 new private cars were licensed in January 2013, a decrease of 26 per cent from 14,507 in the same month a year ago, according to latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed fell by 19.3 per cent.

The total number of all new vehicles licensed during January was 12,316 compared with 16,392 during the same month in 2012, a drop of 24.9 per cent.
