New BMW X5 raises the SUV bar

BMW has made the new X5 a vast improvement on its money-making predecessor, writes Nik Maher.

The new BMW X5 is a big SUV that's remarkably good to drive.

BMW calls the X5 'The Boss' and it's not just a silly nickname. It refers to the fact that, while the 3 Series and 5 Series might be the biggest sellers to wear the blue and white flag of Munich on their bonnets, the X5 is a serious profiteer for BMW. Its margins are, say BMW insiders, quite something, hence the nickname.
