Netflix shares rise on surprise profit

The online video streaming service has reported higher-than-expected US subscriber figures and a profit of almost €7 million. In Ireland, the company is estimated to have over 100,000 subscribers.

Shares in the online video streaming service Netflix rose sharply in after-hours trading after the company reported higher-than-expected US subscriber figures and a profit of almost €7 million for the last three months of 2012.

The company had warned of a loss for the period.

Netflix revealed that it now has 27.2 million US subscribers, a rise of over two million subscribers.
