Net migration rises 25% in year to April

Net migration from Ireland surged by 25 per cent in the year to the end of April, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office showed.

Net migration from Ireland surged by 25 per cent in the year to the end of April, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office showed.

Emigration from Ireland is estimated to have increased to 87,100 from 80,600 in the year to April 2011, while the number of immigrants is estimated to have fallen marginally to 52,700 from 53,300 over the same period.

Of the emigrants,53 per cent were Irish.
