The professional body for hospital consultants chose the three doctors who cleared the disgraced Dr Michael Neary of misconduct charges.

Finbarr Fitzpatrick, the secretary general of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (ICHA), confirmed that his association selected the men.

The Medical Council last week found the three obstetricians – Professor Walter Prendiville, Dr Bernard Stuart and Dr John Murphy - guilty of professional misconduct in their exoneration of Neary’s surgical practices.
