National museums attract 1 million visitors

More than one million visitors (1,071,193) visited the four sites of the National Museum of Ireland in 2012.

More than one million visitors (1,071,193) visited the four sites of the National Museum of Ireland in 2012.

It's the second consecutive year for visitors to top 1 million, even though the overall figure was down by 2 per cent.

Extensive and varied public programming helped but the museums said free admission was also a key factor given the current economic climate.
