Anti-Austerity Alliance candidate Paul Murphy is on course to win the Dublin South-West by-election in a ballot dominated by voter anger over water charges.

Defeat represents a major setback to Sinn Féin, whose candidate Cllr Cathal King was favourite to win the seat in Dublin South West.

Murphy said it was his clear stance on boycotting water charges which had made the most impact.
