Rupert Murdoch, the man who almost never loses a battle, has endured the worst fortnight of his 60-year career, with his reputation hugely sullied and his bid to take full control of BSkyB in tatters

Rupert Murdoch’s rapid retreat from his bid to take control of BSkyB was compounded even further by the resignation of Rebekah Brooks, the managing director of News International, last Friday.

Murdoch finally threw in the towel on his BSkyB bid and gave up on his attempts to keep Brooks in place ahead of their appearance at a British parliamentary committee hearing scheduled for this week.
