A box-office hit, higher park visitor numbers and increased advertising revenue have all boosted earnings at Walt Disney, the world's largest entertainment company.

The Avengers, Disney's hit 2012 movie, is the third-highest-grossing film of all time and the top-grossing film for 2012 and it helped catapult the movie studio's profits to $313 million from $49 million a year ago.
