This week, Motorcheck.ie released data claiming that "consumers now have a one in five chance of buying a used car that has been clocked or is still under finance".

According to its investigations, where more than 10,000 mileage readings were available, more than 23 per cent of cars feature an odometer discrepancy, which was put down to 'clocking', the act of resetting a vehicle's odometer to display fewer miles than actually travelled.
