In which I put all my faith in a penguin, only to find it usurped by a pig.

'Me? I hate Peppa'.

His name is Pingu. His mission: to occupy the period between 7.10pm and 7.30pm when I struggled to secure the perimeter around a baby with chronic reflux and get a two-year-old into bed.

We didn't know it, but the little clay penguin was to become the thing that finally turned One on to television. Dora who? It was Pingu sine qua non.
