More doctors from India, Pakistan apply to work here

The number of doctors from India and Pakistan who applied to register to work in Ireland doubled last week, according to the Medical Council.

The number of doctors from India and Pakistan who applied to register to work in Ireland doubled last week, according to the Medical Council.

A spokeswoman for the Medical Council said it had received 63 applications to register by close of business last Thursday, up from 30 the previous week.

She cautioned against assuming all these doctors would be registered by the July 11 changeover date for junior doctors, as fewer than 20 provided the Medical Council...
