More courtrooms needed after change, says McCourt

The increase in the financial limits of the Circuit Court, announced last week, will result in reduced legal bills as lawyers take more cases in the lower courts, according to justice minister Alan Shatter.

The 2013 Courts Bill almost doubles the Circuit Court limit in civil actions from €38,092 to €75,000, and raises the limit in the District Court from €6,384 to €15,000. In personal injury actions, the Circuit Court limit will be €60,000.
