Mapping has become a key mobile application with a growing number of competing services. But will mobile maps eventually replace traditional GPS units, asks Leslie Faughnan.

It's one of the small miracles of today's smart mobile technology: 'Where is it?' 'Where are we?' Enter your destination address and up comes the map on your little colour screen showing exactly where you want to get to.
