Mobile Business: Challenging times for mobile security

Mobile malware incidents are increasing, but is the problem overstated? Is the security industry up to the challenge of tackling these threats? JJ Worrall reports.

The bad news for security companies is that there's some concern that they simply don't have the tools to deal with the problem of malware.

Mobile security is a rapidly-developing industry and its case is being backed up consistently by attention-grabbing stats like the 32.8 million Android devices that were 'infected' by malware in 2012, or the 65,000 distinct instances of app 'repackaging' for malicious purposes last year.

Added to those figures - from security app provider NQ Mobile - comes IDC's recent study where mobile malware was found to be a major concern for 68 per cent of "IT-controlled" organisations.
