Minister: banning drink sponsors from sport is impractical

Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar has told Checkout magazine that he believes a ban on drinks firms sponsoring sports events is "not practical" in the foreseeable future.

Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar has told Checkout magazine that he believes a ban on drinks firms sponsoring sports events is "not practical" in the foreseeable future.

In an interview published in the ebulletin associated with Checkout magazine, Varadkar noted Minister of State Roisin Shortall’s plans to ban alcohol companies from sponsoring sporting events.

"Ideally, we would like to reduce or remove drink sponsorship of sport by the alcohol industry...
