Merkel: spend unused EU aid funds now

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has said that EU countries should spend EU aid packages now and that budget cuts and economic growth need not be contradictory.

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has said that EU countries should spend EU aid packages now and that budget cuts and economic growth need not be contradictory.

She also said that the EU needs government spending cuts.

Speaking to reporters in Berlin, Merkel said that "nobody" says that austerity "is the only solution".
