Merkel says Ireland needs a "sustainable" debt solution

German chancellor Angela Merkel said that Ireland is an “excellent” example of successful reforms but that the country needs a sustainable debt solution.

German chancellor Angela Merkel said that Ireland is an “excellent” example of successful reforms but that the country needs a "sustainable" debt solution.

The German chancellor said that European finance ministers are working on the specific Irish problem.

Merkel told a joint press conference with Taoiseach Enda Kenny that the upcoming Irish presidency of the EU will focus on spurring economic growth, creating jobs and the stabilisation of the euro.
