With European political and financial leaders anxiously watching today's elections in Greece, the German chancellor Angela Merkel is pushing ahead with an ambitious agenda for European fiscal and political union that will mean another referendum in Ireland.

"There is an inevitability around a referendum. As to when it will be, it's impossible to say," one minister told *The Sunday Business Post* this weekend. Government sources believe that "some form of fiscal federalism" could proceed rapidly...
