Merit to play role in EU gender quota

When the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of introducing a 40 per cent quota for female representation on the boards of listed companies, the glass ceiling often associated with corporate culture looked set to come down.

A draft EU directive, adopted by 459 members of parliament to 148 against, will require companies listed on stock exchanges in the EU, and employing more than 250 employees, to bring in transparent recruitment procedures so that by 2020,...
