Last month, Bewley's cafes closed their doors on Grafton Street and Westmoreland Street for the last time, bringing to an end over 160 years of the company's cafe culture in Dublin.

Last month, Bewley's cafes closed their doors on Grafton Street and Westmoreland Street for the last time, bringing to an end over 160 years of the company's cafe culture in Dublin.

The cafes represented only about 5 per cent of the company's sales, according to a Bewley's spokeswoman. Since 1996, both cafes have made losses of €4 million, which were attributed to costs such as rent, rates, insurance and other factors, including competition and changes in dietary habits.
