When I was a hospital doctor I tried to avoid being on call on Christmas Day. Some of my doctor friends would have a different attitude, especially those who were party animals. They would often swap into Christmas Day in order to be off for St Stephen's night.

Christmas Day is generally quiet for hospital staff. Stephen's Day, on the other hand is chaotic, especially in casualty. It is only then that the heart attacks...
