Threat to free online papers

It’s barely a year since the Irish Times scrapped charges for accessing its online content.

At the time, the ireland.com site was one of the most popular news sites in Ireland, with audited traffic of 1.2 million unique users in a month. However, it had fewer than 10,000 individual paying subscribers.
