Media merger legislation due this month

New laws regulating media mergers will be introduced by the government at the end of the month, a spokesman has confirmed.

New laws regulating media mergers will be introduced by the government at the end of the month, a spokesman has confirmed. The new competition bill, which has been promised for about 18 months, will be brought to government by enterprise minister Richard Bruton by the end of March, his spokesman said.

As part of the new bill, responsibility for approving media mergers and takeovers will be transferred from Bruton's department to Pat Rabbitte's Department of Communications....
