While Pat Rabbitte has a special place in the Fianna Fáil psyche, Michael McDowell manages, politically at least, to be disliked across the spectrum.

Labour paints him as an unreconstructed right-wing ideologue so callous he probably tries to drive over poor people on his way to work.
