The Bar Council was without two of its star speakers at its annual conference in Rome this weekend. The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, and Attorney General Rory Brady were both due to attend yesterday’s one-day conference.

However, due to the controversy over the law about statutory rape, the two men pulled out of the event.
