Martin enters talks with trade unions at Shannon Development

The January 1 deadline set by the government for the transfer of the functions of Shannon Development to Enterprise Ireland looks likely to be missed after enterprise minister Micheál Martin agreed to enter discussions with trade unions at Shannon De

Senior officials from Martin's department and trade union Siptu are expected to begin a round of talks within the next fortnight. The talks are not due to finish until October at the earliest, according to informed sources.

Sources close to the minister described initial talks last week as productive. They confirmed that the minister had agreed that a number of issues would be discussed at meetings with the unions over the coming weeks.
