Mart reopens after consortium purchase

The Sixmilebridge Mart in Co Clare, which closed in December 2009, will re-open on August 27 following the purchase of the mart from Golden Vale Marts Group by a consortium earlier this year.

The Sixmilebridge Mart in Co Clare, which closed in December 2009, will re-open on August 27 following the purchase of the mart from Golden Vale Marts Group by a consortium earlier this year.

The consortium is made up of almost 600 people, mainly farmers, but also local business people, said Eddie Punch, general secretary of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmer s’ Association and secretary of the mart board.

The sale was finalised in June.
