Greek default would be “unlikely to provoke a panic reaction, assuming no other peripheral countries follow,” according to a briefing note by SocGen analyst Patrick Legland.
The scenario of Greece defaulting and leaving the euro “now appears less problematic” but the major risk remains possible contagion to other peripheral countries. Legland said that the prospect of a widespread collapse of the financial system appears to be fading.
