Market report: European stocks gain after Draghi comments

European stocks opened high this morning, extending gains made yesterday. Investors are awaiting data on US durable-goods orders, which will come later today.

European stocks opened high this morning, extending gains made yesterday. The confidence comes after comments by European Central Bank president Mario Draghi indicating that the ECB will act to safeguard Europe’s economy if necessary.

The Stoxx 600 added 0.3 per cent in London this morning, while the benchmark index for European stocks gained 1.3 per cent yesterday - the most since March 4th.
