Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion is no longer having nightmares about Ryanair takeovers. Now, his to-do list keeps him awake at night.

It remains full of problems in need of resolution.

Mannion began the week by firing off a letter to Siptu, the airline’s main union, reminding it that the cost-cutting proposals floated in response to Ryanair’s approach were still on the table. This was enough to trigger a fresh bout of union unrest...
