What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion was scrambling to fend off a hostile takeover from Ryanair and convince investors that the former state airline had a future as an independent entity.
By last week, however, Mannion’s grip on power was beginning to look more secure as he faced down a challenge from pilots opposed to his plans to establish a new base in Belfast.
