Managed Services: Outsourcing for efficiency

The move to managed services can mean a combination of lower and predictable costs from an operating, rather than capital, budget, writes Leslie Faughnan.

Various forms of outsourced and managed services have been around in ICT for decades.

EDS was founded by Ross Perot in 1962, for example, and peaked at 140,000 employees serving 2,000 clients in 64 countries before its acquisition by HP in 2008.

Today there is a particularly wide spectrum of managed services in the ICT sector, from the now ancient but still essential remote monitoring of servers and networks to completely outsourced ICT.
