Committees in Leinster House have very limited powers, and sit in underground rooms

which seem to sum up their status in the political world. But the public accounts committee (PAC) has always been bigger than that.

Over the past six months, its profile has risen to new and dizzy heights due to its public battles with two charities: the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) and Rehab.
