When Australian-born Joe Macri came to Ireland in 1999, it was for personal rather than professional reasons. His wife was Irish and they were keen to raise a family in Ireland, so Macri came to Dublin as marketing manager for Microsoft.

Almost seven years on, he seems pleasantly surprised to be managing director of Microsoft Ireland and a significant figure in Irish business life.
